Entry 7 - The Desert Temple

Tom and I headed out the next day to the middle of the desert on his gyrocycles to a wonderous site - a Mayan Temple! what a Mayan Temple was doing in the middle of the Algerian desert is beyond belief!!

Inside the temple was a room filled with fossils of what looked like dinosaurs on the floor and walls. But that wasn't the strangest thing - right in the middle of the room was an Aztec looking statue. It was quite gruesome and frightening - with a human skull carved in the middle. We mustn't have been the first visitors to this temple as some miscreant had grafittied "MadPea" on the statue. The nerve of some people!!! While examining the statue I accidentally pushed a secret lever which revealed coordinates to a location in the Amazon. Tom gasped in wonder and looked at the map in amazement. "Could it be? Have you found it again!!" he proclaimed - his eyes filled with tears and hope. What exactly is it that I am looking for and why won't anyone tell me what is going on. When I pressed him further he just shook his head and said "I made a vow never to speak of it lass - but if you find the cure to this curse that haunts me I will be in your debt."

Tom leant me his dirigible to get back to my airship and I thanked him for the respite. As I floated away I watched as he waved - a smile on his worn face that I do not believe had graced it in many years.

Entry 6 - The "Mysterious" stranger

I was absolutely exhausted by the time I reached the coordinates that Nemo had given me to meet his associate in the middle of the Algerian Desert. I think that all this running around was finally starting to wear me down a bit - so I was pleasantly surprised when the man I met - a Mr. Ayrton - suggested that I sit and relax for a while before continuing on my journey. The man was very sweet and humble - a Scottsman who insisted that I call him Tom - and while we sat he told me about some of his extraordinary adventures and how he met Nemo on a strange deserted Island in the middle of the ocean. He told me that he hadn't been a good man in his youth but he had spent many years working at redemption. I was puzzled when he said sadly "and all of eternity to repent my sins". I asked him if he was well - his words troubling me that he might be ill and he laughed bitterly and said "no lass - I fear that death will never come for me. The way is lost in the world you seek."

He would not speak of it any further but invited me to peruse his library and told me that tomorrow he will take me out to a temple in the middle of the desert where I might solve the next riddle towards the place that "is lost in time".

Entry 5 - Back to the surface

I have so many questions running through my mind. Could this Lost World be real? How did Nemo know my Great Grandfather? Nemo claimed to have gone to the Lost World with him but that was 100 years ago!!

I returned to my Airship and spent some time researching through the journal I found and some of the books and photos that Nemo gave me. There has to be more to this story than what is in this journal. My Great Grandfather certainly was a dedicated hunter and explorer - but if this strange and mystifying world really existed then why is there no evidence? My father once told me that his grandfather 'disappeared' forty years ago and was presumed dead - but could he still be alive? How else would Nemo have known him? And if so - he would be ancient by now!

Nemo suggested that I pay a visit to a colleague of his who is living in Africa in the Algerian desert. Maybe he will have some more answers for me before I continue my journey.

Day 4 - Nemo's Retreat

The mini sub that appeared took my breath away. The inside was luxuriously furnished in velvets and exotic woods - and I was surprised to even find a pipe organ inside! I think that my jaw almost hit the floor I was in such shock. The man I spoke to on the telephone was not among the crew but of the sailors told me that he would greet me upon my arrival at the underwater sanctuary below. He also told me that the mini sub was named "The Nautilus 2" and the sailor at the helm informed me that it was named after a much larger vessel that my mysterious host once owned many years before. All of the sailors on the sub seemed to all be in awe of this enigmatic, secretive man that I was about to meet.

And when I met him I could understand why! He introduced himself as "Nemo" and told me that he was the owner of the vast underwater lair that I was in. He was a very striking man - tall and dark and of east Indian descent. He looked to me to be in his forties - which was odd when he told me that he knew my Great Grandfather! How could that be when he died forty years ago!?! But he assured me it was true and told me that my eyes were the "cold light blue of a glacier lake - just like his". This trip keeps getting stranger and stranger.

Nemo brought me to a beautiful sitting room filled with books and maps - all on the subject of The Lost World. He told me that he had visited this land once before long ago with my great grandfather and the journalist that was also mentioned in the journal - a Mr. Edward Malone. Apparently after my great-grandfather and Mr. Malone's initial visit to this bizarre land they returned and brought along Nemo - whom they had met along their travels.

Nemo showed me his office where he had his own journals chronicling their adventure. Then I noticed yet another beautiful pipe organ in the room and mentioned my astonishment at the one in his mini sub. Nemo smiled and told me that he had a fondness for the instrument and was very pleased when I informed him of my ability to play. He invited me to sit and I was happy to regale him with a few melodies that I had learned as a child sitting in front of the harpsichord. The handsome captain clapped and smiled - I think he enjoyed listening to someone else play although a far away look in his eye made me think that it reminded me of loved ones long lost.

I have to admit that I was truly captivated by both the man and the spectacular view through the windows of the rooms as he gave me a tour. When I mentioned how beautiful the sea life was he told me that the reason he had moved his sea base to Greenland was a mysterious creature that he believed to be related to one that had attacked his old submarine many years ago. He asked if I would like to see it and I was both thrilled and petrified at the thought. Of course I agreed to go...how could I pass up such a thrilling opportunity! I quickly changed and we headed back out on the Nautilus 2. I think that Nemo was slightly scandalized at my wetsuit - and maybe more than a little enamoured.

The diving suit that he procured for me did more than cover up any indecently exposed curves - I could barely move! He told me that it was necessary gear at this depth and that a trident was more effective against the beast he was going to show me instead of my wand and so I suited up and off we went.

The creature was petrifying! But I stayed brave (and close to Nemo) as we inspected its lair. Nemo called it a "Kraken" - naming it after the ancient maritime monster that destroyed ships and devoured sailors. By the time we got back to the ship I was shaking with fear!

Nemo served me a drink and told me that I would be facing creatures far more dangerous if I planned on continuing my journey to The Lost World. Once we docked he took me to a room filled with dioramas, terrariums and mounted trophies of the most astounding things! Dinosaurs!! He promised me that if I continued on that I would be encountering in full size what these scenes depicted in miniature. I assured him that I was up for the task. Sighing he handed me a map that directed me to the Amazon and the next step of my journey and wished me well - making me promise to come back and visit him if I were to make it out of there alive.

Day 1 - Getting Ready for the Journey

Today I stumbled upon my great grandfathers old journal describing a beautiful land he had visited in his youth. My family thinks me mad, but I must discover the truth about this strange and wonderful Island that has been lost to civilization. Unfortunately he does not mention exactly where this Island lay - however there are many clues to be found in his writings. I am not sure where my voyage will take me but I am sure that it will be one I will never forget!

As I begin to compose my own journal on this incredible adventure, I am waiting patiently for a train to take me from my home to the first stop of the journey. I am not sure I have brought enough supplies for this trip - but there will be many stops along the way to aquire any items that I may need.
